CHRISTMAS FOOD BOXES
Christmas Food Boxes for Monument Crisis Center (MCC)
CHRISTMAS 2018 FOOD BOXES REPORT
104 families in St. Timothy’s volunteered to donate 213 boxes of food for Monument Crisis Center
clients! We packed 121 boxes at the Alamo Safeway on Saturday, November 24th . On Saturday,
December 1, volunteers and members of Boy Scout Troop 36 loaded all the boxes into a truck and
transported them to Monument Crisis Center for distribution to their clients. As in the past, this activity
involved the hands and pocketbooks of many people in the parish who: signed up families to participate
and answered questions, filled boxes with food for themselves and for others, paid for food boxes to be
filled, moved boxes, picked up and delivered grocery gift cards, rented trucks for Fill-My-Box day at
Safeway and for the delivery day, helped load and unload the boxes, filled bags with rice and beans,
cleaned up the parish hall and so much else. We are working on a final accounting and should have
some money left over to donate to Monument Crisis Center.

Every year since 2012, St. Timothy’s parish families have helped Monument Crisis Center furnish a box of food for each of their client families. MCC has an ambitious goal of 2500 boxes this year. Please help us help them by signing up to fill one or more boxes with food using the box and the list we will give you. If you prefer, you can sign up to have a group of volunteers fill one or more boxes for you. The cost is $70. We will gather the boxes after Thanksgiving, add bags of rice and beans and transport the filled boxes along with a $20 grocery store gift card to Monument Crisis Center on the first Saturday in December. We ask for a donation of $23/box to cover the cost of the box and the rice and beans.
In 2011, Monument Crisis Center (MCC) found that they had to have a lottery to choose the client families that could receive gifts through the yearly holiday Adopt-a-Family program. They decided to change the program to one where supporters were asked to fill a box with food for a family. Today, churches, families, and other charitable organizations fill boxes with food using the lists that the Monument Crisis Center supplies before Thanksgiving and/or Christmas. With the help of Noah’s Ark Preschool, Safeway, our Boy Scout Troop 36, UPS, and St. Timothy’s donor families, last year we filled and delivered over 200 boxes of food to Monument Crisis Center.
The Food Box Drive signups start on November 4, 2018. Look for news in the announcements, online, and in Tidings, and at their sign-up tables after services on Sundays in November. On Sunday, November 11, we will fill quart plastic bags with rice and beans. Those bags will be added to each box. There are also several God’s Hands sign up opportunities to help pack food boxes at Safeway (Saturday, November 24), and load boxes. Boxes will be delivered to Monument Crisis Center on Saturday, December 1st.
