79th GENERAL CONVENTION
The General Convention (GC) is the governing body of the Episcopal Church. The Convention is a bicameral legislature that includes the house of Deputies, which has more than 800 members and the House of Bishops, which is comprised of nearly 300 active and retired bishops.
The Convention meets every three years and the 79th General Convention will be held Thursday July 5, 2018 through Friday July 13, 2018 at Austin Convention Center, Austin Texas (Diocese of Texas). The GC has the authority to amend the Constitution and Canons of the Episcopal Church, adopt the budget for the next three years, authorize liturgical texts, and amend the Book of Common Prayer, adopt communions and covenants with other churches, set qualifications for orders of ministry and office- holders, elect officers of the GC, the Executive Council, members of boards, and delegate responsibilities to Interim bodies of the Episcopal Church. GC includes an elected Executive Council, President of the House of deputies, the House of Bishops and the House of Deputies.
Our Diocesan Convention elects 4-clergy and 4-lay Delegates every 3 years to the House of Deputies, St. Timothy’s elects delegates and alternates each year to our Diocesan convention/ Deaneries who elect the Deputies to the General Convention. In this way each diocese of the Episcopal Church has a say in the composition of the General Convention House of Deputies. Our elected Deputies for the 79th General Convention are: Lay- Warren Wong, Sarah Lawton, Christopher Hayes and Carolyn Gaines; Clergy- Eric Metoyer, Vanessa Glass, Merry Chan Ong, and Hailey Delmas. They are happy to hear any concerns you might have about convention resolutions/business. For more information visit http://www.generalconvention.org
